Getting the Sale Without Actually Selling People today are growing more and more tired of being sold. Consumers aren't interested in being sold on either products or services. In general, most people don't want to be sold, they want to buy.

When you approach an individual to sell them something, their sales radar obviously goes up and they naturally back away. They may even back away without knowing what you are selling. The sales process was too much for them and they bailed on you before it begin.

A better approach is to sell by not selling. Confused? Well, what I mean is that you can speak with people without selling or pitching them. You can open a conversation on a completely different topic.

For example, if you would like to land the pizza shop on the corner or the local restaurant's account, why not first go in there to eat. Once in there as a customer, the entire situation has changed and your chance to meet and pleasantly speak with the owner, or manager, has greatly increased.

Business owners appreciate a customer who is in their business spending money. This one simple gesture on your part, going in to eat, can pay great dividends for you. From there, you can ask for the owner and just have a general conversation or explain that you were happy with the food.

This is a positive way to approach a business owner. You have totally removed the salesperson in the room and replaced them with a customer. From there, the business owner may even ask you who you are and what you do. Now you have the perfect opportunity to mention what you do. You explain your service or product without pitching anything. If they are interested in your product or service at that time, they will tell you.

If it does not come up, or they don't seem interested, don't worry, you will come back later. On your next visit, a few days later, you ask to speak with the owner again and say hello as a friend might. This will break down any barrier the business owner would have had and allow you to present your service or product in a positive light.

Does this strategy always work? No, nothing always works. Yet, this simple and friendly approach will help you get more sales and get them in a way that allows you to sell without the pushy selling and uncomfortable sales calls.
